Fifth Annual Starlight Ball Gathers $750K for Scholarship Fund
8 February 2010
Held on the 17th of May 2008, The Ross School announced that the 5th Annual Starlight Ball gathered $750,000 for the Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund, the highest fundraiser in The Ross School’s record.
The fund, which was put up in 1991 during the school’s foundation by Courtney Sale Ross and husband Steven J. Ross, provides children from all economic levels the opportunity to benefit from a Ross School education. The scholarship fund presently grants financial assistance to around 40% of Ross School families.
Michele Claeys, the school head, recognized the Starlight Ball as an honor and tribute to Courtney Sale Ross and the late Steven J. Ross. “Ross School’s commitment to the mission of diversity and inclusion was confirmed by our benefit’s terrific turnout and the amount of scholarship funds raised,” said Claeys.
By sustaining the scholarship program, Courtney Sale Ross believes patrons are helping to ensure their children’s future while also working to expand the legacy of the founding principles of Ross School. The Ross School draws a varied and dynamic group of students who are directed by an outstanding faculty. Financial support is presented to 100% of faculty children, and tuition discounts are given to siblings.
The class of 2008 has obtained over 160 acceptances and more than $1,000,000 in merit awards to schools including Yale University, Skidmore College, University of San Diego, Rollins College, Rhode Island School of Design, Emory University, New York University, Columbia, University of Chicago, College of Charleston, Carleton University, Bates College, Barnard College and Bard College.
