Finding Poker Bloggers
7 August 2008
Honestly, I thought finding 20 people to write and blog about the game of poker was going to be like pulling teeth. Before I even posted the advertisement for openings I had a headache, and I was worried sick about turnout. Then I posted the listing, eyes closed, and sat back. And waited.
Less than a day later I had 50 applicants. Each had sent in samples and resumes within mere hours of the posting, which I found to be pretty amazing. But it got better. A day and a half after the initial posting the email box was full of 100 applicants. About 75% of them were worth an email back for more information.
To say I was surprised was an understatement. Many of the applicants were freelancers, as I expected, but what I didn’t expect was the number of poker-playing freelancers who would be represented in that sample. Dealers from Las Vegas wanted to write, as did beach bums from Atlantic City and Los Angeles. Post graduate students, fresh out of college, and with countless cash games under their belts from local fraternities, jumped at the opportunity to write about their exploits and about friends who had paid for houses with their winnings.
Who knew?
